Trouble shooting your device if the macOS 10.15 update is logging you out

It has come to our attention that some users are facing the problem of being continuously logged out after the most recent Apple update. This is as much a frustration to us as it is to you, however, this issue is with the iOS update and not the My Appointments platform. Firstly, we suggest using Chrome as your browser as we have found it provides a more seamless user experience, however failing that, we have put together some suggestions to help you troubleshoot your device after the update.


Adjust the Automatic Log Out Settings


Step 1: Open the System Preferences

To adjust the automatic log-out settings, you need to open the System Preferences. You can do this by clicking on the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of the screen and selecting System Preferences from the drop-down menu.


Step 2: Select the Security & Privacy option

In the System Preferences window, you will see several options. Select the Security & Privacy option by clicking on its icon.


Step 3: Go to the General tab

In the Security & Privacy window, you will see several tabs. Select the General tab by clicking on it.


Step 4: Adjust the Automatic Log Out settings

In the General tab, you will see several options related to the security and privacy of your system. The Automatic Log Out option is located at the bottom of the window. Here, you can adjust the time after which your system will automatically log out.


To adjust the automatic log-out time, click on the drop-down menu next to the "Log out after" option and select the time that suits you the best. You can choose from several options, ranging from immediately to 8 hours.


Step 5: Save the changes


Clear the cache - Safari users


Step 1: Open Safari


The first step to clearing your cache is to open Safari, which is the default browser on Mac.


Step 2: Access the Preferences Menu


Once Safari is open, click on the "Safari" menu located in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Then, click on "Preferences" from the dropdown menu.


Step 3: Access the Privacy Tab


In the Preferences menu, select the "Privacy" tab located at the top of the window.


Step 4: Clear Cache


Under the Privacy tab, you will see the option to "Remove All Website Data." Click on this button to clear your cache.


Alternatively, you can choose to remove specific website data by clicking on the "Details" button. This will show you a list of all the websites that have stored data on your Mac. You can select individual websites and click on "Remove" to clear their data.


Step 5: Confirm Clearing of Cache


After you have selected the data that you want to remove, click on the "Remove Now" button to confirm. This will clear the cache on your Mac.


Step 6: Restart Your Browser


After clearing your cache, you will need to restart your browser to ensure that the changes take effect.


Clear the cache - Chrome users


Step 1: Open Chrome


Step 2: Access the Settings Menu


Once Chrome is open, click on the three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to access the settings menu. Then, select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.


Step 3: Access the Privacy and Security Menu


In the Settings menu, scroll down and click on the "Privacy and Security" option located in the left-hand sidebar.


Step 4: Clear Cache


Under the Privacy and Security menu, click on "Clear Browsing Data." This will open a popup window where you can select the data you want to clear.


Make sure that "Cached Images and Files" is selected. You can also choose to clear other data such as browsing history, cookies, and passwords, but be aware that this will log you out of any websites you are currently signed in to.


Step 5: Select Time Range


Next, choose the time range for which you want to clear the cache. You can select "All Time" to clear all of your cached data or choose a specific time range.


Step 6: Clear Data


After you have selected the data you want to clear and the time range, click on "Clear Data" to clear the cache on your Mac.


Step 7: Restart Chrome


Once the cache has been cleared, you will need to restart Google Chrome to ensure that the changes take effect.


Reinstall macOS 10.15


Reinstalling macOS 10.15 on your Mac could be a possible solution to rectifying this problem if there was a slight problem with your update that is causing you to be logged out. Here's how: 


Step 1: Ensure your device is backed up. 


Before reinstalling macOS, it is essential to back up all of your important data. You can use Time Machine to create a backup of your entire system or select specific files to back up to an external hard drive or cloud storage service.


Step 2: Connect to the Internet


To reinstall macOS, you will need to connect your Mac to the internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.


Step 3: Restart Your Mac


Restart your Mac by selecting the Apple menu in the upper left-hand corner and clicking on "Restart."


Step 4: Access Recovery Mode


While your Mac is restarting, hold down the Command + R keys until the Apple logo appears. This will launch your Mac in Recovery Mode.


Step 5: Select Reinstall macOS


In Recovery Mode, select "Reinstall macOS" from the options presented on the screen.


Step 6: Follow the Installation Steps


Next, follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall macOS 10.15 on your Mac. This process can take several minutes to complete, so be patient.


Step 7: Restore Your Data


After macOS has been reinstalled, you can restore your data using Time Machine or the backup you created in Step 1.


Reset the SMC


The System Management Controller (SMC) is responsible for managing the hardware of your system, such as the fan speed, battery management, power management, and other similar functions. If the SMC gets corrupted, it can cause various issues, including continuously logging you out.


To reset the SMC, follow the steps given below:


MacBooks with a Non-Removable Battery:


Step 1: Shut Down Your MacBook

Make sure your MacBook is turned off.


Step 2: Connect Your Charger

Connect your MacBook to a power source using the charger.


Step 3: Press Keyboard Buttons

Press and hold the Shift, Control, and Option keys on the left side of the keyboard, and then press the power button simultaneously.


Step 4: Release Keyboard Buttons

Release all the keys and power button at the same time.


Step 5: Start Your MacBook

Press the power button to start your MacBook.


MacBooks with a Removable Battery:


Step 1: Shut Down Your MacBook

Make sure your MacBook is turned off.


Step 2: Remove the Battery

Remove the battery from your MacBook.


Step 3: Press and Hold Power Button

Press and hold the power button for at least five seconds.


Step 4: Reconnect the Battery and Power Adapter

Reconnect the battery and power adapter to your MacBook.


Step 5: Start Your MacBook

Press the power button to start your MacBook.


Mac Desktops:


Step 1: Shut Down Your Mac

Make sure your Mac is turned off.


Step 2: Disconnect Power Cord

Disconnect the power cord from your Mac.


Step 3: Wait for 15 Seconds

Wait for at least 15 seconds.


Step 4: Reconnect Power Cord

Reconnect the power cord to your Mac.


Step 5: Start Your Mac


Press the power button to start your Mac.
